Vladimír Válek ranks among the top conductors in the Czech Republic. He started his career with the North Bohemian Symphony Orchestra in Teplice. In 1970 he established and led the Dvořák Chamber Orchestra. For twelve years he conducted the Prague Symphony Orchestra. He has been the conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
Since 1985 he has been Chief Conductor of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, gaining respect at home as well as abroad. He has regularly appeared as guest conductor with leading ensembles both at home and abroad. In 2002 he was appointed the main guest conductor of the Osaka Symphony Orchestra. He has made several hundreds of CD and radio recordings. Válek´s gesture is clear, he works hard and demands a high standard of performance from his players. He understands music of various styles, performing music by international as well as Czech composers.
